11 Feb Postpartum Massage
The postpartum year is one of great challenge and endurance for many women. Regaining core strength, reclaiming ones body, responding to the needs of your newborn, returning to work while balancing motherhood is enough to make you exhausted. Yet you may not be resting well due to anxiety, fatigue, feeding schedules or parenting multiple kids.
Even with a textbook pregnancy and birth, muscles can be sore for days and weeks afterward. Lifting, changing, feeding and holding a sleeping newborn for hours can leave arms feeling fatigued and shoulders aching. Natural labor, c-sections and rectis diastisis alter the appearance and sensitivity of the abdominal region. Soreness at epidural sites can linger for months.
Any healthy Mother can benefit from postpartum massage. Postpartum massage appointments can be booked as soon as new Mom’s are cleared to walk stairs safely usually a week or two from the date of delivery.
SPW encourages new Mom’s to return to massage as soon as possible. Those friends and family who want to spend time with baby, want to see you taken care of too. Ask them to lend a hand for an hour then come take care of yourself. Remember you can’t take care of others if your glass is empty. Happy Momma’s have happy families!
These are few areas where Postpartum massage provides relief and respite:
Relief of muscle fatigue
Improved appearance and reduction of c section scar tissue
Reduction of abdominal adhesions and scarring
Chance to catch up on rest
Opportunity to shift the mindset from caretaker to being cared for. This is so important because the focus shifts so quickly from Mom to baby
